MORROIS is an index of line-by-line instance of place names in Middle English romances; all explicit references to any distinct place (whether noun, adjective, or other derived form) are catalogued.
Currently, our data is offered through the Omeka content management system, while a more dynamic and flexible RDF platform is under construction.
This site features an irregularly updated concordance of all place names found in the romances of Booklets 1 and 2 of the Lincoln Thornton manuscript (Lincoln Cathedral Library, MS 91) by copyist and compiler Robert Thornton (fl. 1418 – 1456), including the unique copies of:
Prose Life of Alexander, the Alliterative Morte Arthure, Octavian, and Sir Perceval of Galles
MORROIS datasets are available as Linked Open Data. These datasets can be queried directly using SPARQL with D3SPARQL data visualizations to gain a better understanding of the connections between multiple Place Names within the Lincoln Thornton Manuscript. MORROIS also maintains its own Ontology found here
